Update from Lynne Riley for Georgia - December 19, 2011

Seasons Greetings from Representative Lynne Riley

May the holiday season bring you peace and joy as you celebrate with family and friends. It has been an exciting first year for me in the Georgia General Assembly, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as the District 50 Representative. As we prepare for the upcoming 2012 session, I welcome your comments and suggestions on policy and legislative initiatives of interest to you. Please accept my best wishes for a Happy New Year!

Rep. Lynne Riley Joins State Legislators from Across the Nation
to Discuss Free Market Job Creation

Representative Lynne Riley recently joined hundreds of policymakers and leaders from 49 states and the District of Columbia in Phoenix, AZ for the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) annual States & Nation Policy Summit. Over the course of three days, legislators shared their ideas, experience and expertise for growing the economy while maintaining the Jeffersonian principles of free markets, limited government and individual liberty.

"As a state legislator, my job is to find sound policy solutions that grow our economy, protect our citizens, and use taxpayer dollars efficiently," said Rep. Riley. "ALEC is an outstanding resource for state legislators to learn from each other's successes and discuss policy based on principles that will lead to more individual freedom and economic growth."

Rep. Riley participated in policy discussions focused on fiscal responsibility. As a member of ALEC's Tax and Fiscal Policy Task Force, she also reviewed important issues such as pension reforms and a federal balanced budget amendment.

"I believe that a vibrant private sector is good for the economy and job creation," said Rep. Riley. "ALEC's conference gave me the opportunity to share our experiences in Georgia and learn from successes and failures in states around the nation. Many of our constituents face similar challenges and I am always looking for new ideas on how to help them."

Rep. Riley introduces a resolution
opposing state bailouts by the Federal Government

Following the format of model legislation that was approved at the ALEC State and Nation Policy Summit, I have filed a resolution opposing any action by the Federal Government to bail out dysfunctional state governments. You may view the text of HR 1094 at my website at: HR 1094.

It is my hope that the Georgia House of Representatives will join me in making a clear statement to the Federal Government that fiscally responsible states like Georgia will not tolerate any attempt to bail out state governments who have made poor financial decisions. Each state has the ability to levy taxes to provide for services and liabilities incurred, and state leaders must be held accountable for their actions. I have also signed on as a co-sponsor of legislation calling for a Federal Constitutional Balanced Budget Amendment, and look forward to working on the successful adoption of both of these bills that protect the taxpayer.

The Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) will be held on March 6, 2012. But do not be deceived, time is of the essence!

WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REGISTER THOUSANDS OF VOTERS by the deadline of FEBRUARY 6, 2012 for the PPP!

We are continuing to aggressively build the largest mass of Republican Voters that Fulton County has ever seen! We've just learned, there are over 40,000 potential voters in Fulton County from precincts that are overwhelmingly Republican. We need them registered by the deadline, educated about Republican issues, and participating at the polls on election day!!

The first step in ensuring success is to participate in a training that is part of the Voters Registration, VEOP Ambassadors Program. The training will be conducted by JB (Julia) Reed, the Voter Education Specialist, from the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections.

At the end of that training, we will share a calendar of voter registration and education events scheduled from January 7 - February 6, 2011. This calendar coincides with the voter registration deadline for the PPP. For each voter registration drive you agree to participate in, you only need to dedicate two (2) hours at a time, although you are certainly welcomed to volunteer for longer periods.

Your participation in the training is critical! Please spread the word and invite your friends, colleagues and neighbors to join you. Please remember that only registered voters can be Ambassadors/Deputy Registrars.

It is very important that we know well in advance who will participate in this training so that we can prepare appropriately. To respond, Click the Register Now Button below. Please note that the deadline for returning the form is December 21, 2011.

Again, there are over 40,000 potential Republican voters in Fulton County that we need to reach before February 6th! Sign-up to participate in the VEOP Ambassadors Program training before December 21st! This is incredibly important.

Not Voting has Consequences!
